The Boss of You

Ach, the weather outside is frightful. But there are no delightful fires a-roaring… this is Wet Coast wintertime, grey clouds as far as the eye can see (which isn’t far), and cold, drizzling (and sometimes sheeting) rain. However, unlike in the movies, the storms outside don’t indicate inner turmoil or introspection over here — it’s busy, busy and we’re working like crazy to keep up!

We’ve had a fabulous response to our call for interview subjects — it’s been so wonderful to hear about all your intriguing businesses! Keep ‘em coming. One thing we’ve heard from a few of you is that you got the impression we’re looking for “big fish”, and that’s simply not the case. In fact, we want our book to be the antidote to those CEO-profiling, big-mucky-muck business books; this is business advice for real-life, hardworking, small business owners. When we say we’re looking for successful businesses, that’s simply because we want the book to be filled to the brim with examples our readers can follow — it’s not to say we haven’t all made mistakes we’ve learned from, or that we’ve achieved all our goals and are resting on our laurels. (In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met an entrepreneur who would describe herself as having met all her goals… or if I have, she’s near retirement!)

So, if you’ve got a fabulous business venture and you’ve been holding out on us, drop us a line! (We’ve got a pretty strong list of designers, crafters, and other artsy types — being designers ourselves, we’ve got plenty of contacts in those circles — but don’t let that stop you if you’re doing something fabulous.
