I tend to shy away from posting much tech/internet stuff here, even though that’s the industry where Emira and I earn our living. But the fact is, there are a lot of people who see the word “technology” and a part of their brain just turns off, and I like to keep my readers awake and interested if I can help it. (I’m weird that way.) However, there’s been an interesting discussion over at Carsonified lately that I feel the need to share with all y’all.
Carsonified is the blog of Carson Systems Ltd., a small English firm that developed a cool little online application called DropSend. (Short summary: It allows you to send big files to people, easily.) The firm started out as a husband-and-wife team and has grown to eleven people (according to their About Us page). I’ve been reading their blog a lot lately because a) they’ve been talking about the whole Silicon Valley venture-capitalized startup model and its various flaws, and b) Ryan Carson, the company’s co-founder, is blogging while on paternity leave, and I just really like hearing about guys who take paternity leave seriously (particularly those in the IT world, where so much value is placed on being plugged in 24/7).
Anyway, his latest post touches on the beauty of starting small (and how much sense it makes from a financial perspective); it also, as you might guess from its title (“Our idea of success is all messed up”) touches on defining success for yourself, one of our very favourite topics.
(By the way, this post is a follow-up to an earlier one, which you may want to read first if you’re, you know, attached to sequential narrative. But you don’t really need to read the background to appreciate the newest installment.)

Hey Lauren,
Thanks for mentioning my post. It’s something I’m really passionate about.
Please stop by the office and say hi if you’re ever in Bath :)
All the best,
