The Boss of You

We’ve been on the road this week, visiting Seattle, New York, and DC, and all the travelling is giving me a chance to catch up a little on my reading. I finally got a chance to pick up the copy of Venus Zine I bought a couple of weeks ago, and was delighted to discover that it contains an entire section called “The Business of DIY” that collects business tips and advice for entrepreneurs.The issue includes:

• Marketing and PR advice, and information on shared office space for freelancers
• Pricing advice from Etsy gals Vanessa Bertozzi and Beth Ferreira
• A selection of cautionary tales from DIY business owners; and
• Interviews with Knitty.com’s Jillian Moreno and Amy Singer; Cathie Fillian from the DIY Network’s Creative Juice; Josie Maran, founder of an environmentally and socially responsible cosmetics line; and Juli Novotny, founder of Kookie Karma.

It should be on newsstands until June 1, so I highly recommend picking up a copy before it’s too late.
